Design team sought for 16 Class room school at Cloonakilla NS

Progress on the development of a new 16 classroom school at Cloonakilla NS, Bealnamullia has been welcomed by Denis Naughten.

Tenders have been sought for the appointment of a design team for the new school to be located on a two acre site beside the existing school. The closing date for the submission of tender proposals is 14th January, and it is hope that the design team can be appointed soon afterwards

While this is a positive development I have seen projects go as far as the design stage before and then been left on the long finger” said Denis Naughten.

With the planned increase in the school going population in the Bealnamullia/Monksland area, it is vital that this project is progressed without delay.

“The fact is that the school is in one of the fastest growing population areas in the county and the children, staff and parents of Cloonakilla NS have to endure unacceptable conditions due to the lack of priority within the Department of Education.

“At a time when greater value can be obtained on building projects, the Government has decided to slash its building budget by €750m yet thousands of euro is being wasted on renting buildings and prefabs which could easily pay the cost of a long term loan to construct proper classrooms in the first place.

” This project will provide state of the art educational facilities the Bealnamullia area and this announcement, while only a small step is none the less a boost for the Board of Management, Principal, Pupils and Parents of the school,” concluded Denis Naughten.
