Denis Naughten has welcomed the approval of eight applications for summer works in local schools but pointed out that it was disappointing funding was not available to fund other important applications in the county.

“I want to welcome the allocation of funding to the eight schools, namely St Bridget’s NS, Four Mile House; Naomh Micheal & Padraig, Cootehall; St. Ciaran’s NS, Ballydangan; Ballyfeeney NS, Scramogue; Brosna NS; St Mary’s NS Drumboylan; Carrick NS, Ballinlough and Lisaniskey NS, Donamon,” stated Denis Naughten.

“The funding covers the cost of covers electrical and mechanical works. However, I am disappointed that applications for roof replacements and repairs, window replacement, toilet upgrades, structural improvements and access works were not approved due to the limited budget made available by the previous Government.

“While the funding is significantly down on the 2010 budget I welcome the allocation which will benefit eight primary schools throughout Co. Roscommon.

“This scheme is very much based on the capacity of schools to take responsibility for delivering small and medium-scale projects and the boards of management and teaching staff are to be commended in assisting with this key component of the Summer Works Scheme.

“The Planning and Building Unit of the Department of Education will shortly contact all the schools approved for grant aid under this year’s Summer Works Scheme with further details and instructions on how to proceed. It is expected that later this year, the Department of Education and Skills will invite applications for the 2012 Summer Works Scheme,” concluded Denis Naughten.
