Denis Naughten has confirmed that he has sought a meeting with the head of the Irish Prison Service regarding the development of Harristown House in Castlerea as an open prison.

“I have sought the meeting with Michael Donnellan, Director General of the Irish Prison Service, to discuss concerns over the proposed development of Harristown House as a low security facility following its refurbishment,” stated Denis Naughten.

“The Minister for Justice has already stated that he has no responsibility with regard to this matter and that it is solely a matter for the Irish Prison Service. Therefore I requested the meeting with Mr Donnellan to seek answers to questions raised by the local community.”
