The approval of €60,000 in funding for the town of Ballinasloe under the Rural Economic Development Zone project has been welcomed by local TD Denis Naughten. He said it “will be a valuable support to deliver local ideas which will be of direct benefit to the town and rural communities of East Galway and South Roscommon”.
“I want to compliment Ballinasloe Area Community Development Ltd (BACD) for their work on the submission which was the highest ranked project in County Galway and as a result secured the highest level of funding in the county,” stated Denis Naughten.
“I also want to thank Government for putting a programme in place which recognised the quality of the submission rather than who actually made the application. For far too long Ballinasloe has lost out because of such policies. On this occasion with a level playing pitch Ballinasloe has come through with flying colours to become one of the lead pilots under the national for Rural Economic Development Zone project.
“I have no doubt that Ballinasloe and the surrounding communities will use this vote of confidence to secure funding under other schemes such as the LEADER programme.
“I believe that this funding can also help to promote the fact that Ballinasloe now has the most modern water and waste water services in the country with access to the facilities in South Roscommon which can now be used to unlock the full potential of industrial lands in the Creagh area of both counties Roscommon and Galway,” concluded Denis Naughten.
