Summerhill school investment plan welcome – Naughten

In South Roscommon, Young People by Denis Naughten

Local TD Denis Naughten has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Education, Jan O’Sullivan TD, that she is to fast track investment on the site of St. Joseph’s College, Summerhill, Athlone.

“I understand that the investment in the upgrade of school facilities is to commence in 2016, with a major development now planned for 2018,” stated Denis Naughten.

“While I have sought further clarification on the detail of today’s announcement, I do want to thank Deputy Gabrielle McFadden for her work with Minister O’Sullivan in securing a commitment to provide the investment required to redevelop the St. Joseph’s campus in Summerhill.

“With the growth in population in South Roscommon, and particularly in Monksland in recent years, there is increasing demand for additional post primary school places in the area.

“As part of any overall strategy it is imperative we have a detailed development plan for the site and that a transport plan is drawn up to ensure the school is fully accessible to pupils from South Roscommon, Monksland and the Connacht side of Athlone,” concluded Denis Naughten.
