Birchgrove works to divert flood waters

Roscommon County Council has been allocated funding for flood works at Birchgrove, Creagh, Ballinasloe, to address a serious flooding problem that arose last winter.
The works include the installation of a drain to divert surface water to address a serious problem which damaged homes and marooned families.

This is the third allocation of funding to the Ballinasloe area since last winter’s flooding. Earlier this year Galway County Council was allocated almost €100,000 for the purchase of a new temporary flood barrier for the St Michael’s Square area and a further €20,000 was sanctioned for drainage works at Derrymullen.

A further €65,000 has been allocated for works in the Taughmaconnnell area to replace a culvert and remove growth from Killeglan Stream which also threatened a number of homes last winter.

“I want to thank Minister Sean Canney for his assistance in progressing these projects and I look forward to his assistance in addressing other flooding problems throughout Roscommon and Galway,” concluded Denis Naughten.
