Local Minister Denis Naughten has welcomed the news that primary schools throughout the area are to benefit from the Minor Works Grant for the 2016/2017 school year, which has been announced today.

“This grant means that each school can benefit from €5,500 per school plus €18.50 per mainstream pupil and €74 per special needs pupil to carry out minor works,” stated Denis Naughten.

“Each school will receive the funds over the coming weeks and the funding can be used to improve school buildings and grounds, improve or replace mechanical and electrical services, purchase standard furniture and physical education equipment, purchase floor coverings and window blinds and to purchase IT related equipment.

“This funding has been used very effectively in the past by school principals and Boards of Management to make improvements to the school fabric which can enhance the surroundings and benefit every pupil. I am delighted that the funding has been made available for the 2016/2017 school year,” concluded Minister Naughten.
