Minister Denis Naughten has confirmed that the ESB electric car charging point in Ballaghaderreen will be replaced before the end of the year.

It was recently brought to the attention of Minister Naughten that the fast charger in Ballaghaderreen, one of the first fast chargers in the country, was out of service. The charger was installed by ESB eCars but the as manufacturer has since gone out of business there are no spare parts available.

“The new charger will include all three connectors required to meet the needs of all electric cars on Irish roads,” explained Minister Naughten.

Minister Naughten has also allocated funding to roll out additional fast chargers for cars throughout the country in 2018. For the first time he is also providing grants for the installation of home chargers for those who purchase second hand electric cars.
