Minister Denis Naughten has confirmed that the ESB electric car charging point in Ballaghaderreen has now been replaced.

It was recently brought to the attention of Minister Naughten that the fast charger in Ballaghaderreen, one of the first fast chargers in the country, was out of service. The charger was installed by ESB eCars but the as manufacturer had since gone out of business there were no spare parts available.

Minister Naughten said the replacement of the fast charger in Ballaghaderreen will encourage those travelling to or from Mayo to visit the town.

“This is the first fast charge point in County Roscommon and the only one on the N5 between Longford and Castlebar,” explained Minister Naughten.

“This new investment is part of a further planned roll out of fast chargers across the country in 2018 which will provide greater reassurance to those planning to purchase an electric vehicle in the New Year.”

Also from 1st January a new grant scheme is available to install a charging point at the home of anybody who purchases either a new or second hand electric vehicle in 2018.
