The announcement by Oliver Carty Ltd that it has signed a new “100% Irish” deal with SuperValu and Centra is a major boost for local jobs and pig farmers, states local TD Denis Naughten.

“The Monksland based company which employs 130 people has signed a new contract with the Musgrave Group, which will not only secure existing employment at the Roscommon plant but will also support Irish bacon producers who have been struggling to survive,” explained Denis Naughten.

“Furthermore on foot of a product development programme, the company expects to launch a number of new products over the coming months which will lead to an estimated additional 30 jobs over the next year.

“This announcement again highlights the importance of our agri-food sector which can not only meet the existing demands of consumers both at home and abroad but result in expansion and further job creation also.

“It is also important to note that Oliver Carty Ltd, as is the case with many more Irish food companies, is not standing still but developing new and innovative products that can expand the range available to the ever changing consumer trends.

“I would like to congratulate Ted Carty and his dedicated staff for their ongoing commitment to a home grown success story, which we all hope will continue to develop into the future,” concluded Denis Naughten.
