Local TD Denis Naughten has met with Health Minister James Reilly regarding the serious threat that presently hangs over the A&E department at Roscommon County Hospital.
At the meeting Deputy Naughten expressed his deep concern regarding proposals to reduce the opening hours of the A&E department and outlined the anger felt from the local community served by Roscommon County Hospital.
Presently there is a shortfall of 180 junior hospital doctors to service A&E departments in a number of hospitals throughout the country. Progress is being made on this issue and discussions are ongoing with a series of meetings planned with senior HSE management in the coming days.
“I have arranged to meet again with Minister Reilly early next week to receive an update on progress being made at HSE West level and at national level to address both aspects of the junior hospital crisis,” concluded Denis Naughten.
