Local TD Denis Naughten has welcomed the announcement by VistaMed Ltd in Carrick-on-Shannon that it is to create an additional 96 jobs.
“This announcement is a vote of confidence for investment in County Leitrim and highlights the strength of the medical device sector in the region,” stated Denis Naughten.
“The announcement also shows how critical it is to support local businesses, as VistaMed, which was established just 13 years ago, has gone from strength to strength on foot of support from the local development agencies.
“While the company is small compared to some of the other operators in the medical device sector, it is an efficient operation which is well managed and this is the basis for growth and today’s announcement.
“The VistaMed announcement comes on top of last May’s announcement of 100 new jobs by another medical devices company Harmac in Castlerea. These two job announcements clearly show the strength of the sector in the region which is in no small way helped by the success of Athlone Institute of Technology in this particular manufacturing sector.”
