Discussions on going regarding Roscommon Tourist Office – Naughten

In Tourism by Denis Naughten

Local TD Denis Naughten has been informed by Fáilte Ireland that it is presently engaged in talks with Roscommon County Council and Roscommon LEADER Partnership regarding the provision of tourism information services in Roscommon Town.

Responding to concerns raised by Denis Naughten regarding the operation of the tourist office in Roscommon Town Fáilte Ireland stated: “One of the key drivers of our reconfiguration of service delivery is that we match available human resources with peak demand and since 2011, almost 30% of Tourism Information Offices across the country have been taken over by local interest groups with support from Fáilte Ireland. We are working closely with local communities, local councils and local businesses to try to ensure that many Tourism Information Offices, that might otherwise have closed, remained open.

“Fáilte Ireland is in discussions with both Roscommon County Council and Roscommon LEADER Partnership and are hopeful that an alternative model, as initiated in other regions, can be implemented locally in Roscommon town.”

Commenting on the response, Denis Naughten said: “It is imperative that all possible avenues are explored not only to maintain existing levels of tourist information services, but to see these enhanced and developed in order to fully capitalise on the Government promotion of the sector.”
