Minister Naughten raises concerns over mental health review delays

Local Minister Denis Naughten has confirmed that he has raised his concerns at Cabinet over ongoing delays surrounding the publication of the review of the Roscommon Mental Health Services.

This follows news that the publication of the review has once again been delayed and is now not expected to be made available to relevant stakeholders until the end of August.

“I have raised my concerns directly at Cabinet regarding the ongoing delay in the publication of this report,” stated Minister Naughten. “I am extremely disappointed that it has been subject to a further delay.”

Minister Naughten also confirmed that he has raised the issue with Minister of State Jim Daly who has responsibility for mental health.

“I cannot understand, in light of such delays, why the recommendations included in the report are not circulated to the HSE so that immediate actions are taken to facilitate much needed improvement in mental health services provided to people within the County Roscommon catchment,” added Minister Naughten.

“This review and its recommendation were urgent in spring 2015 and yet, over two years later, local management is still waiting for the recommendations in order to start acting upon them.”
