Minister Denis Naughten has been given a commitment by Jim Daly TD, Minister with responsibility for Mental Health, that the Report on the Mental Health Services in Roscommon will be implemented.

Denis Naughten spoke with Minister Daly in advance of his meetings on Monday in Roscommon with the HSE on the actions to be taken as a result of the report.

Minister Daly has committed to briefing Denis Naughten on the outcome from these meetings.

This issue was previously raised at Cabinet by Minister Naughten where he made it clear that all the recommendations contained in the review must be implemented in full.

“We have seen in this review comparisons to the Mid-Staffordshire Trust report which noted there was a ‘focus on costs to the detriment of patient care’, this has to change with the focus placed on patients’ interests, safety and care. People must also be held accountable for their actions and the service must be properly resourced to meet the needs of those who rely on our mental health services,” stated Minister Naughten.
