Local childcare centres across Roscommon-Galway can now apply for Government funding for extra spaces, new play areas and to carry out maintenance work, according to Local Minister Denis Naughten TD.

Applications for the capital grants open today (12th February 2018) for childcare and school age services.

I am pleased to confirm that €6.8 million is being made available by the Government and I am encouraging service providers across Roscommon-Galway to apply. Applications will remain open until 3pm, March 9th 2018.

“Our communities need accessible affordable quality childcare. This year my Cabinet colleague the Minister for Children Katherine Zappone has ensured €485m is being spent on early year services. A lot of the funding is being used to provide extra financial supports to families and we must also support the dedicated people who are providing the childcare. €6.8m is now being made available to allow crèches, pre-schools and childcare centres to provide extra spaces, open up play areas and to carry out vital maintenance work,” stated Minister Naughten.

“I’m encouraging all providers to see how the funding can be used to boost or improve their existing services and facilities. The maximum level is €50,000 for new works, €20,000 for essential maintenance and €7,000 for natural outdoor play areas,” added Naughten.
