Local Minister Denis Naughten can confirm that 13 childcare providers across Roscommon have received capital funding of €145,797 to create more places, improve outdoor play areas and undertake important maintenance and repair work.

The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr Katherine Zappone, has announced a total national allocation of €6.87 million in capital funding for providers of Early Years and School Age Childcare this summer.

Announcing the allocation for Roscommon, Minister Denis Naughten stated: “There was an unprecedented amount of applications this year for the scheme from providers across the country and here in Roscommon which clearly shows there is a real need in our communities for increased investment in the childcare sector. My Independent Cabinet colleague, the Minister for Children Katherine Zappone is working hard on securing this increased funding for providers and this year 13 Roscommon childcare providers have received more than €145,000. While those providers who were not successful in this round of applications will be disappointed, the allocation of funding to 13 is welcome.  More childcare places, better outdoor play areas and important repair works can be delivered at these premises for the benefit of the communities and families that they serve. Minister Zappone and I will continue to press at the Cabinet table for increased investment in childcare through the Budget 2019 process so providers can provide the highest quality of childcare for families in Roscommon.”
