Local TD, Denis Naughten has welcomed the allocation of €258,000 to 9 local sporting organisations in Roscommon & East Galway stating that “this investment will improve local sports facilities and ensure far greater levels of participation in sport”.

The grants announced today by Minister Shane Ross represent the first set of allocations under the 2018 round of the Sports Capital Grant and relate to projects previously deemed invalid under the 2017 round of the programme which have now been corrected.

In relation to new applications submitted under the 2018 Sports Capital Grant round, work is now being advanced on the assessment of these with allocations to be announced later in the year.

“With sports clubs making a massive commitment from their own resources, this investment by Government will assist the clubs in completing projects, as well as having a direct and indirect employment spin off effect within the communities which these clubs serve” said Denis Naughten.

“Having worked closely with some of the successful applications, I have no doubt that they will have a huge benefit in their local communities. And I expect that further allocation of funding for other local clubs will be announced in the coming months” concluded Denis Naughten.
