Local TD Denis Naughten has welcomed the commitment by An Taoiseach that his office will coordinate the supports provided by Government Departments to 106 children and young adults involved in the failings associated with their HSE hearing assessments.

The Taoiseach was responding to a call by Denis Naughten for greater education supports for those effected to ensure that they get the best possible opportunity to make up for the hearing misdiagnosis.

Commenting on the response Denis Naughten said: “This is a welcome development and I now hope all those who have been impacted upon by the failure in the hearing test system in Roscommon and Mayo will have all of the appropriate supports needed put in place.

“What parents want is the opportunity to try to make up for lost time so that their son or daughter gets the best possible chance to progress in education and in life, and this is the very least the State should do in these circumstances,” concluded Denis Naughten.
