Site identified for St. Teresa’s Special School in Ballinasloe – Naughten

Local TD, Denis Naughten has confirmed that the Department of Education has selected a site for the construction of a purpose built building for St. Teresa’s Special School, Ballinasloe.

 

“The school is currently accommodated in the Ballinasloe Enterprise Centre in Creagh and negotiations have now commenced with a landowner on the purchase of a site for the construction of a new purpose built building” said Denis Naughten.

 

The confirmation on the progression of the new school was received by Denis Naughten from Minister for Education, in advance of a discussion he had on the current difficulty for the school associated with insurance costs.

 

Deputy Naughten pointed out to the Minister that urgent action is now needed to ensure that the school has insurance cover in order to keep the doors of this important educational facility open.

 

“For far too long children with special needs had to travel huge distances to access education and now that we have a school on our doorstep it is vital that we maintain and develop it” said Denis Naughten
