Naughten seeks support for farmers in Shannon Callows

In Agriculture, Local Issues, South Roscommon by Denis Naughten

Local TD Denis Naughten has called on the Minister for Agriculture to provide assistance to farmers who have lost after-grass and fodder as a result of the summer flooding of the Shannon Callows.

“Some farmers have been forced to house stock early due to the loss of after-grass which, coming on top of the depressed beef prices, is placing serious financial pressure on farmers in the Callows,” stated Denis Naughten.

“The loss of the Callows so early as a result of flooding leaves local farmers in a very difficult situation, particularly if there is a late spring in 2020 as we have seen in recent years.

“I will be raising the need for support with the Minister for Agriculture in the Dáil this week and I hope he will respond favourably to my request,” added Denis Naughten.
