Local TD Denis Naughten has confirmed that planning permission is being sought for the development of new modern cells at the garda station in Roscommon Town.
“The current cells do not meet modern standards and can pose unacceptable risks to both Gardai and those in custody in the garda station,” stated Denis Naughten.
“As part of the redevelopment the current block will be completely demolished and replaced with a new cell block which will bring the facilities up to the standards available in similar stations across the region.
“Once planning has been approved by Roscommon County Council I would expect that funds will be provided to fast track the construction of these facilities,” said Denis Naughten.
