Denis Naughten is urging the public to make sure that they have batteries ready for their radio to ensure that they can obtain the latest updates on Storm Lorenzo if their is a power outage.
“One of the biggest threats facing the country as a result of Storm Lorenzo is falling trees which can lead to major power outages right across Ireland”.
“In such circumstances websites and social media maybe of little use particularly if mobile phone masts are also without power. This was a situation which I had to deal with as Communications Minister during Storm Orphelia” said the Roscommon Galway TD.
“If you find yourself in that situation local, regional and national radio will be a vital tool to provide updates on what is happening in your own area, so it is important that you have access to your radio”.
“I’m therefore strongly encouraging the public to have their batteries on standby and to tune in to the radio to get local updates on what is happening to restore power and in some instances access to communities”
“And remember to dispose of them safely when they are finished by recycling the old batteries for LauraLynn Children’s Hospice and our environment” concluded Denis Naughten.
