Denis Naughten TD has sought urgent meetings with the Taoiseach and Minister for Communications, Climate Action & Environment as well as the CEO of the ESB in the wake of the decision to cease generation of electricity power stations in Lanesboro and Shannonbridge by December 2020.

“This decision will have a devastating impact on not only those who will lose their jobs but on the region as a whole. This decision will have the same impact on the Midlands that any loss of Google would have in Dublin,” stated Denis Naughten.

“A total of 4,000 direct and indirect jobs will be impacted upon as a result of the ESB’s decision to cease electricity generation at these power stations.

“This is a decision that goes against Government policy and everything that I did during my time as Minister and I have now made contact with the relevant Minister, the Taoiseach and the ESB seeking urgent meetings on this issue.”
