Local TD Denis Naughten has welcomed the allocation of €930,751 to 31 local sporting organisations in Roscommon & East Galway stating that “this investment will improve local sports facilities and ensure far greater levels of participation in sport”.

Among the Roscommon allocations is €73,377 for Elphin GAA club, €55,832 for St Aidan’s GAA Football Club, €52,779 for St Dominic’s Park Committee, €19,224 for Tarmonbarry/Scramogue Community Games and €32,587 for Western Gaels GAA Club.

In Galway, allocations included: €70,750 for New Inn Community Council, €49,341 for Moylough ’79, €69,759 for Padraig Pearses GAA Club. €36,826 for St Brendan’s GAA Football Club (Ballygar) as well as €27,959 for Ballinasloe & District Tennis Club and €27,694 for Ballinasloe Town AFC.

“With sports clubs making a massive commitment from their own resources, this investment by Government will assist the clubs in completing projects as well as having a direct and indirect employment spin off within the communities which these clubs serve,” said Denis Naughten.

“Having worked closely with some of the successful applicants I have no doubt that these projects will have a huge benefit in their local communities.

“I intend to work with the unsuccessful clubs to help them secure funding for their projects in the 2020 funding round, ” concluded Denis Naughten.
