€2.2m fund for local groups and individuals – Naughten

Local TD Denis Naughten has welcomed the allocation of over €2.2m in funding for 2020 for the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP), the Government’s primary social inclusion intervention.

Under the 2020 allocation County Roscommon is to receive €616,000 and County Galway is to receive €1.65m, which is co-funded by the European Social Fund, and supports unemployed people, people living in deprived areas, people with disabilities, single parent families and people on low income, members of the Traveller and Roma community and other disadvantaged groups. 

This funding can assist individuals by providing a broad range of supports including one to one support, advice and guidance; self-employment options and training; back to work and Short-Term Enterprise Allowance Schemes.

For communities this fund is available to provide assistance with setting up groups and mentoring   committees; identifying needs and finding solutions for groups or communities; Men’s Sheds and  Rural Men’s Groups.
