Local TD and Chair of the Dáil Committee on Community & Rural Affairs, Denis Naughten, has confirmed the allocation of €179,000 for the small-scale enhancement of local walking trails across Roscommon and East Galway.
“Funding has been allocated for the improvement of trails in Ballygar, Glenamaddy and Lawrencetown in East Galway as well as Boyle, Strokestown to Tarmonbarry and Granlahan in County Roscommon,” confirmed Denis Naughten.
“This is just the first phase of the allocation of funding for walking trails and further funding will be allocated for much larger projects by Minister Heather Humphreys over the coming weeks.
“There is no doubt that the public are using these trails far more during lockdown and I hope when restrictions are relaxed people will explore more of the many local walking trails that we have throughout Roscommon and East Galway.
“This investment is part of a far bigger plan to promote our area to tourists as part of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and it will also make East Galway and Roscommon more attractive locations for industrial investment,” concluded Denis Naughten.
