Leaving Cert students should have accredited grade option

Many students sitting the Leaving Certificate next June want to see the option of accredited grades included. Here is what one Roscommon student said & how An Taoiseach responded:

Last night I received an email from a leaving cert student in my constituency, who feels they have been completely forgotten by the Department of Education as it’s not recognising the true impact of Covid 19 on those who will sit the leaving cert in June 2022.

 

In fact I raised this specific issue with the Minister for Education on the floor of this House on 13th May last.

 

The email states “we missed a huge chunk of our in school learning due to the lockdown when we were in 5th year including the lack of group work and peer learning”; It importantly goes on to say ”I think we are now incredibly behind and a lot of us are stressed and getting ourselves into a mess with the thought of the leaving cert”.

 

These students are looking for the option of accredited grades, just like last years leaving cert class and I’m asking that this option will be made available to them.
