Local TD Denis Naughten has welcomed the allocation of €4,050,393 to 54 local sporting organisations across County Roscommon & East Galway stating “this investment will improve local sports facilities and ensure far greater levels of participation in sport”.
“This is a historic allocation of funding under the Sports Capital Programme to Roscommon and East Galway and comes on top of an earlier allocation of €600,000 for sports equipment to 24 local sporting organisations across our area,” commented Denis Naughten.
“The total allocation of sports funding under this round of the capital grant programme is €4.6m for 78 sporting organisations, which is well more than the average of €750,000 allocated under previous fund rounds. Credit is due to Minister Jack Chambers in securing this additional funding as well as visiting many local projects,” said Denis Naughten.
“With sports clubs making a massive commitment from their own resources, this investment by Government will assist the clubs in completing projects as well as having a direct and indirect employment spin-off within the communities which these clubs serve.
“Having worked closely with some of the successful applicants I do not doubt that these projects will have a huge benefit in their local communities.
In light of the challenges in securing local funding to help complete the projects Clann Credo, a community finance organisation is running an online information seminar on funding of sports capital projects on Tues. 22nd Feb at 7:30 pm.
This is an information evening for all sports and community groups who may require loan finance to develop local sporting and activity facilities.
This online event will give sports clubs:
- Practical advice on how to use loan finance effectively
- Top tips on applying for a Clann Credo Community Sports Loan
- An introduction to your local Clann Credo representative
- Advice from clubs who have combined grants and loans to develop their facilities in the past
Your club or group may need loan finance to prove you have the necessary ‘own funds’ or ‘match funding’ required by grant aid funds like the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme.
