State paying €100k for tags, but no law to track sex offenders – Naughten
The taxpayer is forking €102,000 per year for electronic tags yet the lack of laws to allow for the electronic tagging of sex offenders is undermining the security of women and children in our communities, claims Denis Naughten TD.
“The Prison Service currently has 10 electronic tags which are used for prisoners on temporary release and it has entered a contract for a further 50 tags at a total annual cost of €102,000; yet we are still awaiting the new law which will allow for high risk sex offenders to be tagged,” stated Denis Naughten.

“It is again clear from today’s reports of inspections by the Central Bank that Irish lenders are not prepared to comply with any code of conduct, and the only way to protect vulnerable families is to provide the courts with greater powers,” stated Denis Naughten.

Denis Naughten TD will attempt to stop families being thrown onto the street if their homes are repossessed with a proposed amendment to legislation in the Dail on Wednesday.
Almost four family homes are being repossessed or surrendered each day at present, with many of these families then battling homelessness to secure some type of temporary accommodation.
Naughten raises Fr. Molloy report with Justice Minister
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald in response to Denis Naughten has again reiterated that she has no plans to commission a further review of the Fr. Molloy case.
