Investment is boost for local tourism
Local TD Denis Naughten has welcomed the allocation of funding for the swimming pool at Athlone Regional Sports stating that “it will improve accessibility to the pool for people with a disability”.
“The funding will be of benefit to people with mobility difficulties, the elderly and local organisations such as the St. Hilda’s Services,” stated Denis Naughten.
“But this will also be a boost for local tourism, supporting those who wish to avail of accessible holidays, and again brings to the fore the growing reputation of Athlone as a sporting centre.
“This reputation has been complemented by the recent decision by the Community Games to extend its very successful association with Athlone IT in the hosting of the national finals.
“This latest investment also includes improvements to the energy efficiency of the pool and leisure centre that will reduce the overall operating costs,” concluded Denis Naughten.
